Ernest Hemingway, the poet, once wrote “There is no hunting like the hunting of man; and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it never really cared for anything else.” This quote illustrates that the criminal mind took over the 1930s criminals were going around heartlessly murdering, kidnapping and robbing stores. They wandered around with dangerous weapons that could easily hurt someone. In this century everywhere you turned you saw crime. From the smallest fellines and shortest jail time, to the biggest feelings and the longest sentences to jail time. Criminals such as Pretty Boy Floyd, Bruno Hauptmann, and Al Capone took over the 1903s and made it a dangerous decade.
To begin, Pretty Boy Floyd was one of the criminals who ruled the 1930s. Pretty Boy was a bankrobber but he was favored by the public because he would destroy mortgage documents freeing many people from the debts. Pretty Boy floyd was also involved in the Kansas City Massacre.( American History: The Great Depression: Gangsters and G-Men pg.3) Pretty boy and some of his friends were trying to prevent their friend from being returned to the U.S.. When they were trying to do this they the gang started shooting the guards that were guarding the convict. (Charles "Pretty Boy" Floyd pg.1) This mass murder shocked the public, and lead them to see how much serious crime was going on in the 1903s. (Kansas City Massacre/“Pretty Boy” Floyd pg.1)
Specifically Bruno Hauptmann would heartlessly commit crimes in the 1930s. During his time he had burglarized 3 homes.( Bruno Richard Hauptmann Biography 1) The most serious crime that Bruno committed was the lindbergh kidnapping. He kidnapped an 20 month old baby boy. While police are searching his house they found nearly 12,000 of Lindbergh's ransom money even though he demanding 50,000 after he kidnapped the baby (1). This kidnapping took place is charles new jersey mansion. Betty Glow, the babies nurse was tucking him in one night when Bruno broke into the mansion and attacked her, he took the baby and climbed out the window. Once the public found out about this there were shocked that someone could do this hateful crime to somebody so endary as Charles lindbergh. After searching his home and finding blueprints of the ladder he built, and finding the missing tool from his tool chest which was a chisel which was found at the crime scene, they arrested Bruno with first degree murder and was sentenced to death. (Wilkie Carol 4).
Al Capone took over the 1930 with his criminal mind. Al capone was accused of illegal brewing distilling and distribution of beer and liquor. The illegal drinks were sold privately, or secretly in "speakeasies" and restaurants. ( McGill, Sara Ann,1) The most disturbing crime that Al capone commited was the Valentine's day massacre. Two men wearing police uniforms gunned down six of Moran's most important men in a garage. No one was charged with the murders so the case is still open and pending. (Patrick Diane,2) Another thing that Capone was connected to was the alleged kidnapping and murder of jake Factor. Jake Factor who was the half-brother of Max Factor who was an international swindler. Author Tuohy who was not related to factor and a former staff investigator for the National Center for the Study of Organized Crime. He briefly connects the history of the Tuohys and the Capone mob, then describes Factor's plan to have himself kidnapped. This connection puts Touhy behind bars and that keeps him from getting deported. This false acquisition lasted 17 years and ended in Tuohy's parole and murder by the Capone mob 28 days later. Jake factor was never deported. Al capone had power over almost every gangster in the 1930s he had so many men working for him. With all this power Capone would be able to do whatever he wanted and commit any crime he wanted… and he did.
In conclusion the 1930s was filled with dangerous and heartless criminals. Al Capone was the famous 1930s gangster. For example the Valentine's day massacre 7 men were lined up against a fence and shot to death. If you think Al capone was a heartless criminal wait till you hear about Bruno Hautman. Bruno kidnapped Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr. held him for ransom money, then killed him. These criminals were just some of the criminal minds that polluted the 1930s.
